Welcome to the Liu Lab

We are biophysicists interested in understanding how the cytoskeletal network gives rise to cell shape and function. We study these questions in the context of auditory hair cells and photoreceptor neurons.
What we do
Picture
How do hair cell stereocilia assemble and maintain themselves?
How do phototransduction proteins traffick to the outer segment?
Picture
We address these questions by reconstituting the cytoskeletal dynamics from simple components
In combination with protein structural analysis
Myosin-7a alone is autoinhibited
Myosin-7a extends the tail when in complex with M7BP
Dimeric myosin-5 in the autoinhibited state

And high resolution live cell imaging
